I spent considerable time studying duffels and oscillating between purchasing an Osprey, North Face, Patagonia, this Marmot, or a Sea to Summit. While all of them are quality bags, and you probably wouldn't go wrong with any of them, I finally settled on this one. So glad I did.Right now people are flocking to anything with the Osprey name on it. Osprey does make good products with lifetime warranties, but I am convinced this duffel is more durable. Osprey's fabric is lighter and the shoulder straps thinner with less padding. I noted, too, that the buckles and snaps on the Osprey seem less durable. Of course, this observation came solely from visual and hands-on examination at a large sporting goods store; I did not have the opportunity to field-test both bags side-by-side. If you're in a situation where every ounce counts, Osprey is probably the bag to go with. Because everything on this Marmot is S-T-U-R-D-Y, be forewarned that it weighs a few ounces more. For my needs, that doesn't bother me in the least. Everything on this is top-notch, and it still weighs considerably less than a suitcase.I love the easy access and wide opening on top. It's wonderfully waterproof, but not plastic-looking like the Patagonia duffel. You can carry it one of three ways: with the sturdy handle sewn into the side of the bag, with the shoulder strap, or using the backpack harness. When not traveling as my carry-on (and sole piece of luggage), it's in my closet, serving double-duty as the storage tote for my off-season clothing. Love the beautiful 2-tone blue color, too.The medium sized duffle is great as a duffle bag (several pockets, easy to open/view contents, lots of handles) and is sized appropriately for a carry-on bag, even on smaller planes--airline personnel frequently assume it's a carry-on, even when I plan to check it for international travel. The back pack straps are just OK from a comfort standpoint and the back panel is the top of the duffel, where there are smaller organization pockets I use for toiletries and charges/cables, so it can be a little uncomfortable against my back. That said, the straps are great for carrying over one shoulder, better than most duffles in their orientation/comfort. As for sturdiness, I've only taken it one one trip, but it handled two international flights and transport on several luggage vans.I’m a field scientist and this bag is perfect for work travel. I use packing cubes and they fit perfectly with room to spare. The interior is easy to wipe clean when the dirt from my clothes inevitably ends up in my luggage. I’m interested to see how it holds up over time, but so far it seems pretty durable. This bag is the end all be all bag for carry on. Recently took it on a business trip and was able to fit 10 days worth of winter clothes, toiletries, and an extra pair of shoes in there. The backpack straps are great to ease the load off of your shoulders when lugging it through the airport and it’s really easy to convert it into a shoulder strap when you need to. The materials and construction really feel tough and sturdy yet the bag is pretty lightweight. I’m ordering another for my girlfriend.Bought this bag as a Father's day gift for my husband and he absolutely LOVES it. It is well built and a great size for weekend trips or carrying athletic equipment. Very happy with this purchase!Great travel duffle/ backpack, it is extremely tough, fits a lot. I've taken the medium size bag as a carry on a few times with no issues... for the most part... It did get weighed in Vietnam. I do wish it had a separate laptop and electronics compartment (minor issue). You'll also find that when using this as a backpack, your back can get quite sweaty from the material's lack of breathability. Otherwise, this bag is pretty good for the price. This is my new go to. You can fit 3-5 days worth of clothes in it and it doesn't weigh a ton. I've already used it on 4 short trips and it's perfect for a carry on. If this one ever wears out, I'll get another.Great purchase. Still holding up strong, and plenty of space. Only thing I can whine about is the strap always in the way of the opening. No regrets thoughBought as a gift for my husband. Nice and sturdy, I like how the handles make it into a backpack. It's well made, the zipper is covered giving extra waterproof protection. A nice blue colour.
